History in Northumberland

Northumberland is rich in history. From Neolithic stone circles, rock art and iron age forts through to the coming of the Romans, early Christianity and Border Reiver times there is a wealth of information to study here.

We have a whole section on Hadrian's Wall and in particular Vindolanda. In here we cover subjects such as the Batavians who manned the border and Chesterholm museum.

We also a section on Bastle houses. And three in particular

Black Middens at Tarset.

Housty bastle house just above Catton, in the Allendale valley.
