Mounthooley, hostel at the head of the College Valley

Mounthooley is right the top of the College Valley. As you drive along the valley past Whitehall you come to Cuddystone hall. Atthis point the road forks. To the left you have the houses at Southernknowe and then the road climbs up to the Lambden valley, Coldburn, Dunsdale and Goldsceugh. However you must take the right hand fork and follow the valley.

After a short distance you will come to the old farmhouse of Fleehope. It has been beautifully converted and is now a long term let by College Valley Estates. Take the road as it passes to the left of Fleehope and shortly you will see Mounthooley. Park on the right side of the road shortly before the hostel itself.

You then have two choices. Walk directly up the hill on your right hand side. This is the Schil.

Or walk along past Mounthooley, using the path to the right. This will take you into the "wilderness" which is the part of the valley where the largest part of the project to replace the conifers with hardwoods is taking place.
